GO LIGHT THE WORLD!

A Sending Forth of Minnesota's Quest for the Voice Poets

Please join us as we honor and send forth young Minnesotans preparing to represent our great state at the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival this summer in Washington D.C..This amazing group of multi-cultural writers and performers give voice to an art form that honors the individual and brings forward the many stories, experiences, dreams, convictions, and perspectives of urban youth that all too often go unheard.

This spirit-filled evening of spoken word will also include music from vocalist Thomasina Petris and messages from St. Paul Poet Laureate Carol Connolly and Minneapolis City Council Member, Rev. Donald Samuels.  

Author and community organizer Julia Dinsmore will also be joining us to celebrate the release of the acclaimed Twin Cities Public Television program Urban Youth Poets: Quest for the Voice created from last year's "Go Light The World!" event.  This project was made possible through the generous support of the First Universalist Foundation. The DVD of the program will be available for purchase this night.

This event is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.

There will also be a silent auction.
